Projects

It’s been a while since I’ve shared a Silver Spoon Studio project with y’all.  After organizing some photos on my external hard drive, I came across some random photos and forgot to blog about this unique project!

Joy Christian School in Glendale requested a fancy and eye-catching “denim and diamonds” invitation for their annual fundraising event.  With nothing other than a theme to go off of, this is what Silver Spoon Studio created:

The RSVP card was in the denim “pocket” and a few places on the invitation were adorned with rhinestones.

The Miss Arizona Organization is very near and dear to my heart. Having won a few local titles under the Miss America system and coming in as a state finalist, the memories I made were incredible. I also took home a few thousand in scholarship.  You may also know that Silver Spoon Studio is a regular sponsor for the organization, providing the new Miss Arizona, custom designed business cards every year.

It was my pleasure to be asked if I would redraw the state pageant’s logo, giving it a little facelift and update.  I worked with Bob Whitney, the original designer who designed the logo in paint I believe.  With the only tools he knew how to use back then and it worked, until now when a vector logo was needed to be translated on more apparel, stationery and other items.

I have yet to write a post exclusively on SpirituallyShe, LLC, a new business venture with my best girlfriend, MK.  We’ve been doing this for the past year and now our ducks are in a row. We’ve set up the LLC, designed the business cards, set up our PO Box, fax, restructured business protocol and duties, brainstormed ideas and read scripture to design the packaging, order rules and fulfillment obligations.  Did you catch all that?

I’ll be slowly winding down business here for Silver Spoon Studio until January 2010 (of course client updates and such are most welcome).  I feel the Lord is calling me to concentrate on building his kingdom and out of  joy, excitement and obedience, I am happy to oblige.

We are a stationery line which focuses on spreading the gospel and encouraging women of faith to memorize scripture to fully equip them on their spiritualwalk.  Our most advertised item are our scripture sets which include 55 beautifully designed cards with a cross that are left intentionally blank along with a guide that give suggested bible verses to write on the blank cards.  There are three packs which you decide you’d want, mostly determined upon your age group.  We left them blank so women could use their own preferred bible translation.  After doing several bible studies together, we knew that obedience isn’t enough but knowing how to accurately recite and find scripture is important in our Christian walk.  I am always thinking of, James 1:21 which is written on a Post-It at my work computer, “Therefore put away all fithiness and rampant wickedness and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls.”  His word saves us from drifting away from him.  It is our prayer that our products do the same for our customers.

MK and I are happy to introduce SpirituallyShe to the world.

The company:

The mission of SpirituallyShe is based on 1 Thessalonians  5:11, “Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.”  As Christians, we believe the Bible, the scriptures of the Bible, both the old and new testaments, to be the verbally inspired word of God and instruction book for life.

In order to live a life the way God intended, we use the Bible as the only reference for life’s decisions.  It is a necessity for us as sisters in Christ to understand the importance of using scripture to witness, and encourage not only ourselves, but fellow believers at any stage in life – whether it’s rejoicing, comforting, or simply a reminder of God’s sovereignty. “For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through endurance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have home.” – Romans 15:4 (NIV)

The products of SpirituallyShe are to serve as convenient and beautifullydesigned tools to inspire and encourage believers of all stages.  Whether our products are used by new or old believers or simply by those curious, it is our prayer that our line of products be uplifting and allow sharing and learning God’s word more delightful as they continue on their spiritual journey.

The duo:

Finding your kindred spirit is rare, but that’s exactly what Diana Jung and Meagan Kimmerle found in each other the day God brought them together at work – right next to each other to be exact.

Daily the two encouraged one another and did the typical things best girlfriends did.  But it was more than their worldly common interests, but their love and dedication to the Lord that solidified their friendship.

One day, the idea of memorizing scripture on a weekly basis turned into a discussion on finding beautiful cards to write them on, because displaying God’s word on any index card just wouldn’t do for these two girls of grace.

The idea of creating products to spur other women of faith was an incredible opportunity.  God laid the idea of starting such a business on their hearts and considering Diana’s experience in business and graphic design and Meagan’s education and experience in sales and marketing, SpirituallyShe was born.

We are celebrated FC’s birthday (early) today.  We had a Chanel-themed birthday party.  It was absolutely perfect since her last name is Cheng.  Here’s what I came up with!

The invitation:

The party:

A girl should be two things: Classy and Fabulous. – Coco Chanel

All attendees were dressed in black, white and pearls (as the invitation requested).  Above is the gift I wrapped for her.  You like the quote? Yahhh. I am going to visit FC in London and we’re going to go to Paris and I’m so excited!

Happy real bd to my sweet friend JM!  Love you!  Can’t wait to celebrate with you this weekend.  You light up my life. xo

They should have arrived by now.

Continuing our campaign with our second postcard in our summer campaign by numbers.

Today kicks off our Campaign by Numbers marketing mailer.

Postcard #1 went out to 70 clients and hot leads today. Our group of 70 will be receiving several mailers this month, keep up with us on this blog if you aren’t on the list. If you want to get on our mailing list, email us at info[at]silverspoonstudio.com.

We will publish the details of each mailer when we know they’ve arrived in everyone’s mailboxes as not to ruin the surprise!  Thanks BV for your help!

Introducing Little Strokes Big Strides, a non-profit that will be launching this summer where high school swim students who are certified will teach underprivileged children at a local facility how to swim.  The concept of this organization was brilliant and the idea is to avoid child drownings and also give children the opportunity to interact and observe from the “big kids” who serve as their instructors and possibly role models.

We look forward to watching this grow and we’ll keep you updated when classes begin – free to the public.

I found this at Wisteria and loved it. The only problem was, I didn’t want a  Grecian chant.  So, I thought if I found some vintage song of an old hymn and enlarged it, I could not only have something cheaper, but it would be more meaningful.

The inspiration:

Limited Edition Framed Antique Music Sheet, $229 each

I bid on an old 4 page hymn book of “Beautiful Savior” from 1939 on eBay, scanned and printed it via Shutterfly on 11×14 sheets.  I found three gold frames from Aaron Brothers to hang above the couch.

Here’s the end result, the three frames above the couch:

All of this, under $100.  Yep, I had three 40% discount coupons for the frames so that helped.  And yes, I went in three separate times with a coupon to get my discount (it said one per customer visit, so I was not breaking any rules!).  Still cheaper than just one of those frames.  I am often asked about the wall color, it is called Harmonic Tan by Behr which can be found at Home Depot.  It’s a muted green. I found a color similar from a Crate and Barrel catalog and was determined to match it, I just grabbed a swatch and asked for two gallons of paint – without testing the walls.  I know, gutsy.  But I was so tired of all the testing that I did before moving in.

Anyway, here’s a close up of the first frame series:

Can you see the reflection of my XM station?  It’s always on the Watercolors station.  Yes, I listen to smooth jazz.  What?

I started this blog to talk about work.  Would you please click on “my life” and “projects” and compare how many blogs are written about each?  Um, yeah.  So back to business.

Look what I made for Ms. Julie Field who makes beautiful cakes in the Phoenix Valley area:

Did you just have a bd, baby shower, special occasion, baptism, engagement party, wedding, etc. etc?  Not sure what to do with all those cards?   Don’t throw them away!  And don’t just file them away thinking one day you’ll actually read the message again (especially the ones that just sign their name).

I have a brill idea for them.  Well, I was inspired by Ali Edwards, scrapbook guru and awesome creative blogger extraordinaire.   This was her creation from her Christmas cards:

I loved that idea so much that I took past year’s bd cards from friends and created my own version a few years ago, as seen here:

This little thing now sits in my office on a bookshelf. I just love it so much and reminds me of lovely friends.

Instructions for this project here, as described by Ali Edwards.  I found my frame at Target.

Another idea borrowed from NG’s baby shower, she lines the baby drawers with wrapping paper from the shower.  Her hubby GG’s mom did that with an old dresser which is now theirs, so she is carrying on the sweet tradition.  Hm, idea JM? xo
